It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Detachment Life Member, Richard P. Sabol at the age of 74. After a long illness, Richie passed away peacefully at home in Baldwin Place on February 13, 2025.
He was born and raised in the Hollow section of Yonkers by his parents, the late Daniel and Agnes Sabol (Ormond). He graduated from Commerce High School, Class of 1968.
Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971. On June 20, 1975, he was sworn in as a Police Officer with the Yonkers Police Department, where he became a decorated officer. He was promoted to the rank of Detective in October 1983 and retired in 2003. Richie often said that he loved the job so much that he would have done it for free.
On September 23, 1983, he married his loving wife, Janice Burke, in Yonkers, New York. The proudest moments of his life came with the birth of his children, Thomas Richard (Lisa) and Erica Anne, and their many accomplishments. He was a devoted father and family man. His grandsons, Thomas Michael and Rory James, brought him tremendous joy in his final years. Rich had a heart of gold and was always willing to help family and friends. He was also an avid golfer who played by his own rules, a fact confirmed by all his golfing buddies over the years.
Richie is survived by his brother, Raymond (Susan); his favorite mother-in-law, Miriam Burke Mazzara; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Sabol, Patty Ann Sabol, Miriam Burke (Kevin), and Debra (George) Muench; and all of his devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel and Robert Sabol; his sister, Nancy Cummings; his brother-in-law, Daniel Cummings; and his sister-in-law, Colleen Burke.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY 10703. Final disposition is private.
